São Paulo

Much like New York, São Paulo is the name for both our City and State. The population of the state is around 44 million, which is around 1/5 of Brazil’s population. The city hosts over 20 million people, which is around 10% of Brazil’s population. Our ministry is in São Caetano do Sul, one the metropolitan cities in Greater São Paulo. Not only does São Paulo city house over 20 million people, but it also has millions of tourist each year. It is a field that is overflowing with a ripe harvest.

Public Transportation

São Paulo’s public transportation system is phenomenal. Riders can travel anywhere in the city with the use of the bus, subway, and train system. The city bus system utilizes over 16,000 busses daily and transport around 8.8 million passengers daily. The busses travel everywhere within the city and even travel out to the surrounding satellite cities. The bus lines also interlink with the city’s subway and train systems. There are 632 km (393 mi) of reserved bus lanes within the city on large avenues allowing the busses to avoid some of the traffic. These lanes often run to and from subway and train stations.

Shopping District

You are more than welcome to visit 25 de Março, which is our busiest  shopping district. It is about 4 square blocks and has over a million shoppers daily. The fabric store alone is eight stories tall. Full buses from other states come in to take advantage of the great deals.

Helicopter Transportation

São Paulo has the largest fleet of helicopters in the world, with around 700 registered helicopters and 2200 flights per day in the city. The helicopters are owned by the elite, businesses, and air taxi companies. There are 215 helipads in the city so that the wealthy can conveniently avoid heavy traffic and travel between the four main business districts. By way of comparison, Los Angeles has the most helipads in the USA totaling 41.

The average daily commute for a resident of São Paulo city is 93 minutes. This is said to be the third worst commute in the world.

In an effort to reduce the traffic, the city bans 1/5 of all cars each week day. The last digit of your license plate determines the day in which you are not allowed to drive.
